Niche is the architecture and design portfolio of Matt Watson, an architectural graduate currently living and working in Christchurch, New Zealand.
Having obtained honours degrees in Law and German Language and Literature in 2001, Matt practised law specialising in resource management, property conveyancing and development, and commercial litigation. His experiences in advising property developers led him to shift career goals and he obtained his Bachelor of Architecture with 1st Class Honours in 2009 and Master of Architecture with Distinction in December 2012.
Matt has also previously been a Teaching Fellow at the Victoria University of Wellington School of Architecture lecturing and tutoring in architectural design, professional practice, and construction law.
Matt's architectural interests include civic and judicial architecture; residential architecture (especially small house and medium-density modes); craft in architecture; research-led design; and architectural education.
His legal interests include resource management law (especially urban planning regulation); construction law and practice; ethics and the regulation of construction professionals; and property law (especially modes of property ownership in mixed-use and intensified-density land use).
